Florida Horse Racing at its Best

Florida horse racing at its best is not what those who first opposed it foresaw when they tried to keep horse racing in Florida from ever happening. Judging from the latest horse racing news some may conclude their biblically based warnings were right, but as the bible itself points out, there is nothing evil of itself but rather comes down to us and the choices we make. Throughout Florida's horse racing history there have been those who through poor choices have fulfilled nearly every prediction of those early critics from gambling addiction to track owners battling each other for every racing cent they can get. There is however another side to that coin which should not be overlooked conveying the image of Florida horse racing at its very best. That image was also created through choices, albeit much better ones. Like for example a florist named James Donn Sr. who drawing upon his keen business sense as well as his masterful landscaping skills chose to help turn the shattered racetrack dreams of a young entrepreneur who had sacrificed everything into a place called Gulfstream. Or what about Stephan Zachar's contributions not only to the Florida thoroughbred, but his consideration for both the racing fan and stable worker in his innovative designs at Calder And as for the horses themselves, it brings to mind names like Carl Rose or James (Uncle Jimmy) Bright who chose to ignore the naysayers and prove that a horse raised and trained under the Florida sun could be just as big, just as beautiful and just as fast as any horse in the world. As every jockey knows, a horse race can be won or lost by making the right choices at the right time. We can only hope the ones having to make those decisions now and in the future will remember the men and women who have made the right ones in the past because they truly are Florida horse racing at its best.

There's a bunch of Things to do in Florida April 1, 2, 3, 2011 - but what if it rains? Rain in the SUNSHINE STATE,... how could that be?? Well at the time of this posting the weatherman says no, but after Monday's non-stop drizzle in the central part of the state it must at least be considered a possibility. Yes it does rain even in Orlando but judging from the crowd at Islands of Adventure, even rainy days on Mondays don't get Florida tourists down. Armed with umbrellas and Harry Potter Panchos (say that three times fast), they looked like wandering droves of white dementors but everyone vowed to have a good time even if it required gillyweed to do it (Potter joke). The old theme park wizard himself, Walt Disney somehow knew how to bring out the kid in us with other parks like Universal fashioning their own spin on the same formula. But even if the things you plan to do in Florida April 1, 2, 3, 2011 have nothing to do with a theme park or sampling a mug of Butter Beer, if it rains just try to take it like a kid - like those drowned rats skipping through the puddles at Islands of Adventure with Luna Lovegood expressions on their faces. When looking for things to do in Florida March 25, 26, 27, 2011 you may want to check out one of Florida's many weekend car shows. With cars playing such a major role in our lives, we all share a connection with them making car shows one of the most popular events with everyone from Grandma to the Hot Wheels set. Even if you're more into craft shows than chrome, you have to admit, the automobile is a genuine work of art with a past that will keep any history buff fascinated while stirring a big frothy cup of nostalgia for those of us who still remember what a clutch is. And for aficionados that have an ongoing love affair with these remarkable machines,... well they're already searching the list for the next big show. By the way, if you can't find a particular car show in this list of things to do in Florida March 25, 26, 27, 2011 or any future list posted each week on Florahome USA, you'll always find a link to more car shows included near the bottom of the list. This week's list of things to do in Florida March 18, 19, 20, 2011 clearly shows just how diverse the state is. One of the main objectives of Florahome USA's 'Things to do in Florida' list is to appeal to as many tastes and interests as possible and while it's true you can't please everyone, this attempt really does cover a lot of ground. If you haven't yet taken off your clover green, there are still a few St. Patrick's day events left to enjoy but there's also the Asian Festival in Sarasota and the India Fest & Health Fair in Gainesville where you can sample a whole different world of taste and texture. That's another obvious point when scanning this list of things to do in Florida for March 18, 19, 20, 2011 - people, no matter where on the planet they happen to be from really do love to eat. While you'll rarely have trouble finding a good restaurant in Florida, it's also rare to find a special event here without food being a big part of the draw and this weekend is no exception. From Boca Raton's Boca Bacchanal to the Pinellas Park Firefighter's Chili Blaze, food is definitely a major theme. Tastes also vary in other areas as well but whether you get a kick out of Cole Porter or you'd rather be cuttin' the rug with The Flying Turtles String Band in High Springs, we've got you covered.
