Dreaming of a White Christmas in Florida

by Petr Kratochvil

When you're born in Florida, a white Christmas is something you see on TV or maybe a Hallmark card. Occasionally a flake or two has been spotted here in Florahome, but with everyone running into each other as they clamour for a glimpse, by the time you make it out the door the Florida blizzard has usually gotten its bearings and headed back north. There WAS that one winter back,... whenever, when we all got out and made that snowball (wasn't quite enough for a snowman) but for some Florida natives even farther south, their first encounter with snow may only come by way of either a winter vacation to the north or a more permanent relocation there. They eventually find however, a few Christmas surprises Hallmark leaves out of those idyllic scenes on their cards discovering there's a little more to a northern winter than snow angels and sleds. But for those Florida natives who may be heading up north for the first time - let the carols begin, because the first white Christmas even for those born up there really is a dream.
