There are lots of cool things to do in Florida October 21, 22, 23, 2011 with COOL being the operative word. Streamliners circa 1936

Back in 1936, the streamliner was the comeback kid in a world where train travel was rapidly looking as worn out as Granddad's old mule. With names like the Burlington Zephyr, The Hiawatha or how about The Rebel for pure panache, these brazen new upstarts of the rails touted greater speed, lower fares and luxury neither the automobile nor the airplane could match. Comparing the steam locomotive like The Lord Baltimore in the photo below to the Hiawatha's new sleek modern design, it's no surprise so many passengers in 1936 were willing to give the train at least one more try. Once on board though, it was level of luxury experienced that really clinched the deal. As these photos indicate, it's not always about just getting from point A to point B - it's about getting from point A to point B in style.

There are more things to do in Florida October 14, 15, 16, 2011 than you can shake a stick at.   uh,... better make it a big stick - that is if you plan to be anywhere near San Antonio FL this coming weekend.  OH NO!,... OH YES! - it's time again for the Rattle Snake Festival! That's right - the Rattlessssssnake Festival!!!   And with Halloween fast approaching, that's just one of the many events on this week's list of things to do in Florida definitely not for the squeamish. Or the more sensible as they may see it, as in - the kind of people who wonder why those idiots in horror stories choose to stay in a haunted house when a tent from L.L. Bean would be preferable to blood dripping down the wall. For you, there's just as much fun to be had this week in Florida with one new attraction in particular just perfect for the kids. It's the opening of LEGOLAND October 15th in Winter Haven, FL offering youngsters and youngsters at heart a place to explore a whole family friendly world of Lego adventure. While looking for things to do in Florida October 7, 8, 9, 2011, you may also want to clear your calendar for October 24th through the 30th - especially if you live in or near the Sarasota, Florida area. Whether you're a current or former resident of Sarasota, or maybe plan to visit Florida's Sun Coast the latter part of this month, this is your opportunity to pay tribute to the man considered the Father of Sarasota, John Hamilton Gillespie. With featured events from golf which Mr. Gillespie himself brought to the state of Florida, to music and dance celebrating his Scottish heritage, The 2nd Annual Owen Burns Celebration honoring John Hamilton Gillespie promises to be the perfect time to enjoy memories of old Sarasota as well as a chance to make some new memories with family and friends. As for this coming weekend, there are bookoodles of things to do in Florida October 7, 8, 9, 2011. Halloween is already creeping up on us with SeaWorld's Halloween Spooktacular or Fright Nights at Florida's famous Silver Springs. Even nearby Gold Head State Park will get you in the the spooky spirit offering a Haunted Moonlight Hike this coming Saturday. And for the squeamish among us, there's ARToberFEST in Palatka along with a cornucopia of other Oktoberfests and fun things to do in Florida October 7, 8, 9, 2011.
