Things To Do In Florida Oct. 21 - 24, 2010

The kids in this part of Florida will have lots of things to do on these October dates,... us older kids too. The Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville is probably the closest to Florahome, and while it's a favorite fun hangout for both kids and adults any time of year, this weekend they're really letting it fly with their Butterfly Fest on the 23rd and 24th. No place makes nature more facinating and I'm sure it will be worth the trip. Not to be outdone, St. Augustine's 15th Annual Ancient City Kids Day is Oct. 23rd and since this is the 15th time this event has taken place, they obviously know how to throw a party. If you have the stamina, you could do the whole weekend at these two events. If you're REALLY in shape, there are things to do even now with the St. Johns County Agricultural Fair already in full swing and will remain so thru Oct. 24th.  Perry, Florida is also kicking things off early with a ton of things to do - from a kid's parade to Lumberjack shows and a golf tournament. Their Florida Forest Festival will run Oct. 21 - 23 and if you're anywhere close by (or even if you're not) it sounds like fun! Also, the Magnolia Fest begins on the 21st in Live Oak Florida. The Fall Market Festival in Newberry, FL featuring their 3rd annual BBQ Cook Off starts on the 22nd of October and will continue thru the 23rd. And don't forget Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios is still going on as well as the Spooktacular at SeaWorld and the International Food and Wine Festival at Disney World's Epcot. For still more things to do in Florida, check out these other events beginning with another one not too far from Florahome that sounds a bit different than the others mentioned, but just as much fun.

Florida Columbus Day Weekend Festivals

October is the month when native Floridians pull out their sweaters feeling that 80s chill in the air. It's actually one of the nicest months of the year here in Florida and Floridians take advantage with many festivals or 'toberfests'. Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach is one of the more popular around these parts, but that's a mid-month affair. First we have to honor Christopher Columbus who I'm sure was himself in the mood to celebrate when land was sighted and the mutiny postponed. Starting with those closest to Florahome, here are some links to a few Columbus Day weekend festivals worth considering if your planning to be here in Florida from the 8th through the 10th (haven't found one for Columbus day yet,..)

St. Augustine
Greek Festival - Oct. 8-10

St. Augustine
Creekside Festival - Oct. 9-10

Winter Park
Autumn Art Festival - October 9-10

Port Charlotte
Holidayfest and Craft Extravaganza - Oct. 9-10

Fort Myers
Beach Pirate Fest - Oct. 8-10
